About
OEIC is currently a one man shop, with that one man being me, Steve Goodman. I specialize in custom web application development in the academic, non-profit and clinical trial domains. I’ve been in the web development field for over 10 years, and I have worked on a wide range of projects, from blogs for individuals to inventory tracking systems to startup companies’ Next Big Thing. I have designed large front-end interfaces, and developed sophisticated back-end management systems.
I was a co-founder of CfDev.com (now Zrinity) back in 1999, one of the first companies building sophisticated ColdFusion components, such as the very popular ActivEdit WYSIWYG editor.
OEIC stands for the Ohio East India Company. What’s the story behind the name, you ask? Your guess is as good as mine, to be honest. A rough outline follows.
Around 2002, my friend and partner Sam Clanton and I moved to Ecuador to help various non-profits get their IT infrastructures established. We did a bit of that, walked up and down 200 steps every day, saw some volcanoes, got rained on, sunburned and tear gassed, then ended up back in the US, in a not too surprising development.

Sam decided he wanted to teach monkeys to manipulate robotic prostheses with their brains, and enrolled at Carnegie Mellon to work towards an MD/PhD. I, on the other hand, decided nothing of the sort, and stayed the path of developing web applications. Sam was raised in Columbus, Ohio, and hence: the Ohio East India Company was born.
